A small bathroom does not need more square footage to feel calm and generous. It needs fewer visual interruptions and a plan that puts every inch to work. These are the moves that make the biggest difference in a guest or hall bath.
Go lighter, and go larger with tile
Small tiles mean more grout lines, and more grout lines make a room feel busy. A large-format tile in a light, warm neutral reads as a single calm surface. Carrying the same tile from floor to shower wall makes the room look taller and wider at once.
Float the vanity
A wall-hung vanity lifts the bulk off the floor, so you see more floor and the room feels bigger. It also makes cleaning far easier. If the wall cannot take the weight, a furniture-style vanity on legs gets most of the same effect.
Swap the tub you never use for a curbless shower
If nobody soaks, a tub is the single largest thing in the room doing the least work. A curbless shower removes the step, removes the glass-heavy enclosure, and lets the tile run edge to edge.
